Alright, let’s talk about this fella, Harold Varner. He’s one of them golf players, you know? Hits the ball real far, they say. Harold Varner, that’s his name. Seems like a good boy, though I ain’t never met him.
Now, I hear tell he wins things. Golf tournaments, that is. One over in Australia, and another in one of them desert countries… Say-dee Arabia, I think they call it. He’s good, I guess. Folks keep saying he’s up there on the leaderboards, whatever them things are. Must be important if they keep track of it.
They got these fancy courses, real pretty looking, I bet. People wanna play on ‘em, bucket-list courses they call ‘em. Like going to see the big ocean or something. Harold, he plays on them, and he plays good.
But see, here’s the thing. This Harold fella, he says you gotta swing your own swing. Don’t go trying to copy nobody else. That makes sense to me. I always say, you gotta do things your own way. Trying to be like somebody else just gets you all tangled up.
- Swing your swing. That’s what he says.
- Train yourself. Do it again and again.
He’s right, you know? Even if you ain’t as bendy as you used to be, you can still get things done. Lots of us old folks ain’t as limber as we once were, but we still get by. You just gotta figure out what works for ya and stick to it. It ain’t about being fancy, it’s about getting the job done.
This boy, Harold, he also talks about how to keep your head in the game. Focus, they call it. He learned it from that Tiger fella, Tiger Woods. Now, everyone knows Tiger. He’s real famous. Even I know him, and I don’t know much about golf. Tiger, he’s the best, they say. So if Tiger’s teaching Harold, then Harold must be listenin’ good.
It seems like focusing is real important in golf. You gotta keep your mind on what you’re doin’, not get distracted by all the birds chirping or the wind blowin’. It’s like when you’re bakin’ a pie, gotta pay attention or you’ll burn the crust. Same thing with golf, I reckon.
And this Harold, he hits that ball a long ways. Over 300 yards, they say. That’s like three football fields, ain’t it? Must be strong as an ox. But it ain’t just about being strong, it’s about doing it right, doing it over and over. Practice makes perfect, my grandma used to say. She was right about most things.
Harold also says you gotta have the want-to. You gotta really want to do good, want to win. Can’t just go through the motions. That’s true in life too, not just golf. You gotta have a fire in your belly, gotta want somethin’ bad enough to work for it.
Harold Varner seems like a good fella, a hard worker. He listens to the smart folks, learns from the best, and does things his own way. That’s how you get things done in this world, whether you’re hittin’ a golf ball or bakin’ a pie. Just keep your head down, focus on what you’re doin’, and swing your own swing. And if you ain’t as young as you used to be, don’t you worry none. You just find a way that works for you and keep on keepin’ on.
So, that’s what I know about this Harold Varner. He’s a golfer, a winner, and he seems to have his head screwed on straight. Good for him, I say. Good for him.
