That Andy Reid, he’s a tough old bird, ain’t he? Been coaching football for longer than some of these young fellas been alive. Heard some folks talking ’bout Andy Reid retirement, saying he might hang up his hat soon. Well, I don’t know about all that. Seems to me like he’s still got plenty of fire in his belly.
I seen him on the TV, yelling and hollering at them players. He gets all red in the face, bless his heart. But he gets them boys to play good, don’t he? They won that big game, the Super Bowl, a couple times now. That’s gotta count for something. They pay him a lot of money, a real big amount of money to coach that Kansas City Chiefs team. So he won’t quit easily I guess.
They say he’s the best coach around. Makes more money than all the others, that’s what I heard. Twenty million dollars a year! Can you imagine? That’s more money than I’ve seen in my whole life, put together. They say he signed a big paper that will let him coach for five more years. He must really love football.
Now, some folks say he’s getting up there in age. Sixty-six years old, they say. Well, that ain’t exactly young, but it ain’t ancient either. My old man, bless his soul, he worked the fields till he was near eighty. And Andy Reid, he just stands on the sidelines, right? He doesn’t have to work hard.
- He don’t drink.
- He don’t smoke.
- He just thinks about football all the time.
So maybe he can keep going for a while longer. Who knows? Maybe he’ll coach till he’s a hundred! Wouldn’t that be something? But those young fellas, they’re always nipping at your heels, wanting your job. That’s just the way of the world, I reckon.
Heard some whispers that after that fella in New England, that Belichick, after he stopped coaching, folks started talking ’bout Andy Reid retirement again. Like a bunch of old hens clucking in the coop. Just a lot of gossip, if you ask me. That Andy Reid, he’s a tough nut to crack. He’ll decide when he’s done, and not a minute sooner.
This football, it’s a crazy business. One minute you’re on top of the world, the next minute everyone’s saying you’re too old. It is so hard to be a coach. But Andy Reid, he seems to handle it all just fine. He just keeps on coaching, keeps on winning. More power to him, I say.
Now, I ain’t no expert on football. Don’t know all the rules and all that fancy stuff. But I know a hard worker when I see one. And that Andy Reid, he’s a hard worker. He never gives up, never stops trying. That’s what makes him a good coach, I reckon.
So, will Andy Reid retire soon? I doubt it. He won’t retire. Not yet, anyways. He’s got too much fight left in him. He’s like an old mule, stubborn as can be. He’ll keep on plowing that field until he just can’t anymore. And I will be happy to watch him do it.
He’s a good man, that Andy Reid. A good coach. And I wish him all the best. May he coach for many more years to come, if that’s what he wants. Or may he not, if that’s what he wants. It’s his choice, after all. He earned that right, I reckon, working so hard all these years. That’s for sure.
But these fellas now days, they want everything right now. They are so impatient. They don’t know what it is to work hard and wait. Andy Reid, he knows. He’s been around long enough to know that good things come to those who wait. And he’s waited, and he’s worked, and now he’s on top. Good for him.
He’s living the dream, they say, with all that money and all them wins. But I bet he still works harder than most folks. Success don’t come easy, no matter who you are. You gotta earn it. Every single day. And Andy Reid, he’s earned it, that’s for sure. He works almost all year round. He is a real hard-working guy.
So, let him coach as long as he wants, I say. He earned the money and he won the games. Let him enjoy it. He deserves it. That is what I think.
