That Freddie Couples, he’s a big name in golf, ain’t he? I heard folks talkin’ ’bout him down at the market. Seems like a real good player. He is 64 years old, but still playing like he was young.
I hear he got hitched not too long ago. February 22, 2022, that’s what they say. To a gal named Suzanne Hannemann. Good for him! Love is a good thing. They say he lives out in California now, Newport Beach. Fancy place, I reckon. I ain’t never been, but it sounds nice.
This Freddie, he’s famous for how he hits that little white ball. They call it a “smooth swing.” And his puttin’, they say it’s like a song, all rhythm and such. He’s been using some fancy club, a Bettinardi, they call it. Sounds Italian to me! FCB, Fred Couples Blade, that’s what it stands for. He’s been using it since 2013, so for a long time. He is won five times with it, and finished in the top 20 at three of the four Masters.
- He’s won some big tournaments, this Freddie.
- He won the Masters in 1992. That is a long time ago!
- He even got into that World Golf Hall of Fame.
He had some back pain in a tournament, that is not good. He is 64, maybe his back is getting old. He need to take care of his back! But he kept going, bless his heart. That’s the spirit! Just goes to show, you gotta keep on keepin’ on, no matter what. He is still playing in tournaments. I heard he’s playin’ in Rancho Mirage now. He used to live there. I think that is also in California.
Now, I heard somethin’ else interestin’. He grew up in Seattle, where it rains all the time. And you know what? He don’t wear no glove when he plays! Says they cost too much money, seven or eight dollars. And he’d just ruin ’em in the rain anyway. Played every day, rain or shine. That’s dedication, I tell ya. He don’t care about the rain. He just play, everyday. This is why he don’t wear glove.
They say he played through pain, this Freddie. 80-76, those were the numbers I heard. That ain’t so good in golf, I think. But people were askin’ if he was gonna quit. “No, no,” he said! He ain’t quittin’! He’s tough as nails, that one. Even though he is old, he don’t want to quit. He just want to keep playing golf.
He watched some golf on TV, this LIV-PGA Tour thing. I don’t know much about that. But he had somethin’ to say about it, I guess. This Freddie, he sure gets around, don’t he? He always play in some tournaments.
They asked him to play in some tournament, this PNC Championship. He said no for many years. But he’s gonna play in it now. That’s what they say. I guess even old dogs can learn new tricks, huh? This Suzanne Hannemann, she plays volleyball. That’s a different sport. But maybe she can teach Freddie a thing or two! Haha!
Freddie is 64 years old, he is the oldest player. But he still wants to play in the field. That’s somethin’, ain’t it? He played at Augusta National for the Masters in April. He played 80-76. He just loves that game, I guess. Keeps him young at heart.
Well, that’s all I know about this Freddie Couples fella. He seems like a good egg. A real good golfer, and a tough one, too. Playing through pain and all that. I hope he keeps on playin’ as long as he can. He should take care of his back, maybe he can play for longer time. It’s good to see folks doin’ what they love, ain’t it? Even when they’re gettin’ up there in years. Keeps ’em goin’, I reckon. Just like me, keepin’ busy with my garden. Keeps me young, too!
Freddie Couples, this name will show up many times when people search for golf. He is a good player. He don’t wear glove. He play everyday, no matter rain or shine.
