That Ashley Moyer-Gleich, you know, she’s that basketball referee, the one in the NBA. She’s good, I tell ya. Wearin’ number 13, that’s her. She used to play, back in the day. Played at some college, Millersville, I reckon. Heard she’s gonna be the second woman referee in the NBA Playoffs. That’s a big deal, ain’t it?
They say she’s married. Her husband, Johnee Gleich, he’s a referee, too. Works for the colleges, that one. And he does some buildin’ on the side, contractor, they call it. They got a good life, I suppose. Two referees in the family, must be somethin’.
This whole referee business, it ain’t easy, you know. Especially for a woman. Back when, there was this other lady, Violet Palmer, first woman referee. She had it rough. People weren’t nice to her just ’cause she was a woman. Imagine that! Now, there’s, what, eight of ’em? Eight women referees in the NBA. That’s somethin’, ain’t it? But still a lot of men.
These women, they gotta be tough. Everyone’s watchin’ ’em, yellin’ at ’em. Every little call they make, folks are ready to jump down their throats. It’s a hard job, bein’ a referee. Gotta have thick skin, I tell ya.
There’s Ashley Moyer-Gleich, and that Holtkamp woman, Lauren Holtkamp. And another one, Natalie Sago. And now, there’s a new one, Jenna Schroeder. That’s four. They got it tough, I think, always being watched and people yell at them. Must be stressful, I reckon.
I heard the NBA picked the referees for the first round of the playoffs. It was April 18, 2024. A Friday, if I remember right. And guess what? Ashley Moyer-Gleich was one of ’em! Only the second woman ever to do that in the playoffs. That’s really somethin’.
- Ashley Moyer-Gleich, NBA referee, number 13.
- Played at Millersville University.
- Married to Johnee Gleich, college referee.
- Second woman to referee an NBA Playoff game.
- Tough job, being a referee.
It’s a big deal, her bein’ in the playoffs. Not many women get that chance. She must be good at what she does. Gotta know the rules, gotta be fair, gotta be quick. And gotta be able to handle all them players and coaches yellin’ and carryin’ on.
I remember watchin’ basketball on the TV. Them referees, they run up and down the court all game long. Back and forth, back and forth. It’s tirin’ just watchin’ ’em! And they gotta keep their eyes on everything. Every bounce, every pass, every foul. It’s a lot to keep track of.
And them players, they’re big and fast. Some of ’em are real giants! It takes a lot of courage to stand up to ’em, I reckon. Especially when they’re mad about a call. They get right up in your face, yellin’ and stompin’. But these women referees, they hold their ground. They don’t back down.
So, this Ashley Moyer-Gleich, she’s somethin’ else. Makin’ history, they say. Second woman ever to referee in the NBA Playoffs. Good for her, I say. She’s earned it. Worked hard, I bet. And she’s showin’ everyone that women can do anything men can do. Even referee a basketball game!
I reckon that’s all I know about that Ashley Moyer-Gleich. She seems like a good one. Hope she does well in the playoffs. It’s a big opportunity for her. And for all the other women referees out there. They’re pavin’ the way for the next generation. Showin’ ’em that anything is possible. Even in a man’s world.
