Okay, let’s talk about Hurston Waldrep. I’ve been following this guy for a while now, and man, has it been a rollercoaster! I first heard about him when he was tearing it up in college. Dude had a killer strikeout rate, something like 13.5 K/9 if I remember right. Then, when he went pro last summer, he kept it up, striking out 12.6 per nine. Insane! They say his splitter is basically unhittable, an upper-80s pitch that just makes batters miss. I guess it worked in college and even in the Braves system, with a miss rate over 60 percent. No wonder everyone was hyping him up.
I was pumped to see what he could do, you know? Then I saw the news – he got put on the IL. I think it was around mid-June. Turns out he was dealing with right elbow inflammation. My heart sank. I was like, “Not this again!” So many promising players get derailed by injuries. It’s the worst.
But here’s the good part. I recently heard he was making his return to the mound. I was so stoked! I had to find out more. I read that in his first game back, after giving up a leadoff double, he managed to get the next guy to ground out. Classic Waldrep, always finding a way. But yeah, he did give up a run on a sacrifice fly. Still, it was just like in his first start ever – a bit shaky but you could see the potential shining through.
- First noticed him in college
- Heard about his insane strikeout rate
- Got bummed when he got injured
- Felt excited about his return

The Rollercoaster of Following Waldrep
It’s been a wild ride following Waldrep. From the highs of his college dominance and pro debut to the low of his injury, and now the excitement of his return. It’s a reminder that sports, and especially baseball, can be so unpredictable. You never know what’s going to happen.
I’m definitely keeping my eye on this guy. I really hope he can stay healthy and reach his full potential. He’s got the talent, that’s for sure. It’s just a matter of putting it all together and staying on the field. I’m rooting for him, and I think you should too. This guy could be something special.
Anyway, that’s my little story about following Hurston Waldrep. What do you guys think? Anyone else been following his journey? Let me know in the comments!
