Well, let me tell ya about this fella, Steve Sarkisian. He’s a coach down in Texas, and I gotta say, he’s had a bit of a ride getting there. Now, I ain’t no expert on all this football business, but I do know when someone’s been through some tough times and come out the other side looking stronger. And that’s exactly what happened with this Sarkisian fella.
It all started back in 2021 when he first took the job at Texas. I remember hearin’ how the Longhorns got a real good whoopin’ from Arkansas. It was a tough time for ol’ Sarkisian and his team. They lost 40-21, and I reckon it didn’t sit well with any of ’em. But let me tell ya, that was just the start of his journey.
Now, Steve Sarkisian, he’s no stranger to struggles. Before Texas, he had some ups and downs, coaching at places like Washington and Southern California. I hear he had some personal battles too, but he kept on pushin’. He’s like that one old oak tree out by the barn that keeps standin’ tall even after all them storms pass through. Folks might not notice it, but it’s still there, strong as ever.
By the time 2022 rolled around, ol’ Sark was ready for a bigger challenge. He had spent a year gettin’ to know the players, the systems, and the whole big picture. His Longhorns squad was lookin’ a whole lot better than before, and you could see they was ready to go up against some real tough teams. I reckon that loss to Arkansas in his first year was the fire he needed to keep pushin’ forward, even if it didn’t seem like it at the time.
And sure enough, Texas started turnin’ heads. They wasn’t perfect, but they were fightin’ for every win. And then, just as the season got more serious, Steve Sarkisian got himself a nice little four-year contract extension from the school. Ain’t no small thing, I reckon. That’s somethin’ to be proud of, especially when you’re in a business like that where one bad season could have you packin’ your bags.
But what really stands out about this whole deal with Sarkisian is how he kept his head on straight. I read somewhere that he was thankful for the small victories, the little things that might get overlooked but make all the difference in the long run. That’s somethin’ a lot of folks forget—sometimes it ain’t about the big flashy wins. It’s about stayin’ steady and keepin’ that focus on what you can control.
Now, I ain’t sayin’ that Sarkisian’s perfect. He still has plenty of challenges ahead of him, that’s for sure. Texas ain’t the easiest place to coach, especially with all them expectations. But I reckon he’s got the grit to stick with it. He’s been through enough to know what it takes to get to the top, and I’m sure he’ll keep fightin’ for it.
And let’s not forget his family, especially his wife, Loreal. She’s a strong lady in her own right, too. I hear she’s got a knack for fashion and has been dubbed the “First Lady of Texas Longhorns Football.” Now, I don’t know much about all that fancy stuff, but it sounds like she’s holdin’ her own while supportin’ her husband through it all. Ain’t that somethin’?
So, when you look at Steve Sarkisian and his career, you gotta think about the bigger picture. It ain’t just about wins and losses. It’s about the struggle, the growth, and the ability to pick yourself up after you’ve been knocked down. And for that, I say he’s earned every bit of that contract extension and the respect he’s gettin’ now.
Texas fans, they’ve seen a lot of coaches come and go, but maybe, just maybe, they got themselves a good one in Steve Sarkisian. He might not be the loudest, he might not be the flashiest, but he’s stickin’ around, doin’ the work, and pushin’ that team to do the same. And that’s what counts in the end.
So here’s to you, Coach Sarkisian. Keep fightin’, keep pushin’, and keep teachin’ them Longhorns how to win—not just on the field, but in life too.
