Okay, so I finally decided to tackle the White Mask Varre questline in Elden Ring. I’d heard it was a bit weird, and maybe a little creepy, but also that it could get you to a pretty cool, high-level area early on. I’m all about that, so I gave it a shot.
First thing, I met this Varre dude right at the start of the game, after I got out of that tutorial area. He was just standing there, looking all cryptic. He gave me some basic tips, but nothing too crazy.
I moved on, did my thing, beat Margit (finally!), and then I went to the Roundtable Hold. After I talked to the Two Fingers, I headed back to where I first met Varre, but he wasn’t there anymore! Instead, I found a message from him, telling me to go to the Rose Church in Liurnia of the Lakes.
So, I made my way to Liurnia, which was a bit of a trek, and found the Rose Church. Varre was there, just chilling. He asked me what I thought of the Two Fingers, and I figured being honest was the best policy, so I told him they seemed a bit off. He seemed pretty happy about that.
Then, he gave me some Festering Bloody Fingers and told me to go invade other players. Now, I’m not a huge fan of PvP, but I figured, what the heck, I’ll give it a try. I used the fingers, got my butt kicked a few times, but eventually, I managed to invade three times. That was enough for Varre.
Back at the Rose Church, he asked me if I wanted to be anointed. I said yes, because, why not? Then things got a little… weird. He gave me this cloth, the Lord of Blood’s Favor, and told me to soak it in the blood of a maiden. Yikes.
I remembered seeing other players talking about needing to go to the Four Belfries, so I fast-traveled there. I found a special portal that took me to the Chapel of Anticipation which is the starting area, I fought the boss and then in that starting church there was a dead maiden, so i used the favor on her.
With the bloody cloth in hand, I returned to Varre. He seemed super pleased. He then did some weird ritual on my finger, and gave me a Pureblood Knight’s Medal. He said it would take me to Mohgwyn Dynasty, which is that high-level area I was after.
And that was it! I used the medal, and boom, I was in Mohgwyn Palace. It’s a pretty creepy place, but the farming potential is insane! Lots of runes to be had. I definitely haven’t explored it all yet, but it was worth doing Varre’s questline to get here early.
