Alright, let’s talk about this fella, Ace Bailey. Now, I ain’t no fancy hockey expert, ya hear? Just tellin’ it like I see it. This Ace, he was a hockey player, a real good one, from what folks say. Played for them Toronto Maple Leafs, back in the day. Toronto St. Patricks too, they called ’em somethin’ different back then, I reckon.
This boy, he could score, that’s for sure. They say he put the puck in the net more than most fellas. In one season, they say he was the best scorer in the whole darn league! Led the whole NHL in goals, they say. And points too! That’s somethin’, ain’t it? Must’ve been quick on them skates, that Ace.
- Scored a whole bunch of goals, more’n 100 they say.
- Helped his team get them points, more than 80 of them assists.
- Played a good long while, over 300 games. That’s a lot of skatin’, I tell ya.
Now, somethin’ bad happened to Ace, real bad. Got into a fight durin’ a game, a real rough one. Got hurt somethin’ awful. Had to stop playin’ hockey after that. Can you believe it? All that talent, gone just like that. Folks say he was the first fella to have his jersey number retired, whatever that means. Guess they didn’t want no one else wearin’ his number, out of respect, ya know?
He tried to stay in the game, though. Asked if he could be one of them linesmen, the fellas who watch the lines. But they said no, poor fella. So, he went and coached some college boys, taught them how to play hockey. Guess he was good at that too, coached ’em for years. University of Toronto, they say. Smart kids, I reckon.
This Ace, he had a nickname, see? “Ace.” Got it from his daddy, who was also a hockey player, a good one too, they say. Must run in the family, that hockey talent. This Ace, he played for a good while, ’bout 11 seasons in the NHL. Won a couple of Stanley Cups too, but that was a different Ace Bailey, I think. Confusin’, all these fellas with the same name. Our Ace, he played for the Leafs, remember that.
They say he was a right winger, whatever that means. Probably means he skated on the right side of the ice, I guess. And he was real good at it, from what I hear. Folks still talk about him, even though he played way back when. Must’ve been somethin’ special, that Ace Bailey.
They got stats on him, you know? How old he was, how tall, how much he weighed. All that fancy stuff. They even know when he got drafted, whatever that is. Folks keep track of everything these days, I tell ya. But the important thing is, he was a good hockey player, a real good one. And he played for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Don’t you forget it.
They even put him in some kinda Hall of Fame, years later. Guess that means he was really, really good. Deserved it, I reckon, after all he did for the game. Even though his career got cut short, he still made a mark. That’s somethin’ to be proud of, ain’t it?
So, that’s the story of Ace Bailey, as best as I can tell it. A good hockey player, a tough fella, and a Toronto Maple Leaf through and through. Now, you go on and tell your friends about him, ya hear?
