Okay, so today I want to talk about Aunjanue L. Ellis. You know, I had heard her name tossed around a lot, especially with all the buzz about the Oscars and stuff. I finally got around to doing a deep dive on her career. It all started when I saw this clip from “Origin” – she was so captivating, I just had to know more.
I started digging into her filmography. It’s way more extensive than I realized! I watched a bunch of interviews and read some articles about her. She’s been in the game since the mid-90s, which is wild. I mean, she was in “The Tempest” on Broadway with Patrick Stewart back in 1995, for crying out loud!
Then I started watching some of her older stuff. She was in a show called “High Incident” in the 90s, and then had a recurring role in “The Practice”. I’m a big fan of “True Blood”, so seeing her pop up in that was a cool surprise, I gotta say. “The Mentalist” too – she played a pretty big role in that one for a few years. It’s just so interesting to see how her career evolved over time. She’s got range, you know? Comedy, drama, you name it.
But it wasn’t just her TV work that got me hooked. I went down the rabbit hole of her film roles. I haven’t seen all of them yet, but the ones I did watch were seriously impressive. Oh, and get this – I found out she’s Snoop Dogg’s cousin! She played Will Smith’s wife, Oracene Price, and mother to Venus and Serena Williams in that movie “King Richard”. Snoop Dogg even gave her a shoutout. Said she had him crying on the tour bus! And she’s also a Delta. I watched a bunch of interviews, and she just comes across as so down-to-earth and genuine. Like, she’s had this amazing career, but she still seems so humble.
So, yeah, that’s my Aunjanue L. Ellis deep dive in a nutshell. I was really blown away by everything I discovered about her. From her early days on Broadway to her more recent roles, she’s just a phenomenal actress. I’m definitely going to be watching more of her work, and I highly recommend you do the same. She is someone worth looking into.
