Well, let me tell ya ’bout this fella, Smylie Kaufman. Don’t rightly know why they call him “Smylie,” sounds like somethin’ a little kid would say, but hey, to each their own, I reckon.
Who is this Smylie Fella Anyway?
Now, from what I gather, this Smylie, his full name is Carter Smylie Kaufman, born on November 30th, though they don’t say what year. He’s one of them golf fellas, you know, the ones that whack little balls with sticks and chase ’em around a big ol’ field. Seems he was pretty good at it too.
Playing Golf and Winning Stuff
They say he went to LSU, that’s a university down south, and played golf for them tigers. He even won one of them big golf tournaments in Las Vegas back in 2015. Shot a 61 on the last day, which I hear is real good. Folks were sayin’ he was gonna be the next big thing.
- Won a PGA Tour in Las Vegas in 2015
- Played with Jordan Spieth in the 2016 Masters
- Tied for 12th in the 2017 Players Championship
He even got to play with that Jordan Spieth fella in the Masters, that’s a real fancy golf tournament. And he did alright in some other tournaments too. But then, things kinda went south for him.
Injuries and Such
Seems like Smylie hurt his wrist, real bad. And that’s a problem for a golf player, seein’ as how they gotta use their wrists all the time. So, he couldn’t play golf so good anymore, and by 2021, he wasn’t on the tour no more. That’s a shame, real shame.
From Golfing to Talking ‘Bout Golfing
But Smylie, he’s a resourceful fella. Can’t play golf no more, well, he’ll just talk about it then. Started workin’ for NBC Sports in 2023, reportin’ on them golf games, walkin’ around the course with the players and tellin’ folks what’s happenin’. Guess he figured if he couldn’t hit the balls, he could at least talk about other folks hittin’ ’em.
Smylie on the Internet and Such
He’s even got one of them Instagram accounts, smyliekaufman10, they call it. Got a bunch of followers, near ’bout a quarter of a million, last I checked. Posts pictures of himself, his little girl, talks about LSU tigers and his job at NBC. Seems like he’s doin’ alright for himself, even if he ain’t whacking golf balls for a livin’ no more.
He’s a Family Man Now
And get this, he calls himself a “girl dad.” That means he’s got a little girl, and he’s proud of her. That’s good, real good. Family’s important, more important than hittin’ little balls around, I reckon.
What’s He Up To Now?
So, that’s Smylie Kaufman for ya. A golf player who used to be real good, then got hurt, and now he talks about golf on TV. He’s a family man, a LSU tiger fan, and seems like a decent fella. Life throws you curveballs, but you gotta keep on swingin’, even if it’s with a microphone instead of a golf club.
Final Thoughts on Smylie
I ain’t never met the man, but from what I hear and see, he’s made a good life for himself. He took a bad situation and turned it into somethin’ new. And that’s somethin’ to be admired, I tell ya. Good for him, good for him.
