Okay, so, I’ve been playing Genshin Impact for a while now, and one thing that always gets me hyped is the new banners. You know, those limited-time events where you can try your luck to get new characters and weapons? Well, I decided to dig a little deeper into how these banners work and keep track of them.
First, I needed to figure out where to get the information about past and current banners. It took me a bit of browsing, but I finally found some fan-made wikis that have a pretty comprehensive history of all the banners that have ever been released. There’s even some stuff about upcoming banners, although that’s more speculative, based on leaks and rumors.
Start Tracking
I started by copying down all the information about past banners, such as:
- Banner Name: What they called it, like “Invitation to Mundane Life”.
- Featured Character: The 5-star character that was the main focus, such as “Ganyu”.
- Rate-up 4-star characters: The 4-star characters that had a higher chance of appearing, like “Xiangling”, “Xingqiu”, and “Noelle”.
- Duration: How long the banner lasted, like “2021-01-12 to 2021-02-02”.
- Banner Type: Whether it’s a “Character Event Wish”, “Weapon Event Wish”, or the “Standard Wish”.
I put all this information into a simple spreadsheet. It was a bit tedious at first, but once I got into a rhythm, it went pretty smoothly. I even added some color-coding to make it easier to see the different types of banners at a glance. Then, I started thinking about how I could make this information more useful. It hit me. Maybe, just maybe, I could predict the next characters or weapons to have a rate up. It might be a long shot, but it is always worth a try!
Going Further
I decided to add a few more columns to my spreadsheet:
- Pity Count: This is a mechanic in the game where you’re guaranteed a 5-star character or weapon after a certain number of wishes. For example, 90 wishes for a character banner and 80 wishes for a weapon banner.
- 50/50: This is another mechanic where, if you don’t get the featured 5-star character on your first pity, your next 5-star is guaranteed to be the featured one.
- Fate Points: This only applies to weapon banners. Basically, you can chart a course for a specific 5-star weapon, and after getting two 5-star weapons that aren’t the one you want, the next one is guaranteed to be the one you chose.
Once I was done setting up the spreadsheet, I realized I needed a way to keep it updated with the current banners. So, I checked the official Genshin Impact website and social media accounts for announcements about upcoming banners. Then I found a pattern, usually, they announce the next banner a few days before the current one ends. By checking daily, I managed to gather some hot news. That’s how I got my own first-hand information, so great!
With all this data, I can now make some educated guesses about when my favorite characters might have a rate-up again, and plan my wishes accordingly. It’s not an exact science, of course, but it’s still fun to try and predict the future banners. And who knows, maybe my little project will help other players make better decisions about when to spend their hard-earned Primogems!
