Okay, so yesterday I tried to get into the whole golf scene. I am not really a big fan of golf, but I got free tickets to the Travelers Championship, and I thought, why not? You know? It’s something different. Plus, I heard Scottie Scheffler was gonna be there.
I started the day by grabbing my old Boston Celtics hat. I figured it’d be a good conversation starter or something, even though I knew nothing about this guy except he’s, like, the number one golfer in the world. So, I headed to the golf course, totally clueless about what to expect.
When I got there, I watched a bit of the practice rounds. It was kind of cool seeing these pros up close, even though I couldn’t tell a good shot from a bad one. Anyway, after a while, I saw a bunch of people crowding around, and guess who it was? Scottie Scheffler.
I thought, “Here’s my chance!” and joined the crowd. People were getting all sorts of things signed—golf balls, programs, you name it. So, I took off my Celtics hat and waited my turn. When I finally got to the front, I handed him my hat and a marker, you know, all excited.
But get this, he just looked at the hat, looked at me, and said, “Sorry, I can’t sign that.” Just like that! I was so surprised. I mean, I didn’t know about his whole Dallas Mavericks connection. Apparently, he’s a big fan, and the Celtics had just beaten them in the finals. Later I realized that he’s from Dallas, and watched the Mavericks get beat by the Celtics, which is probably why he didn’t want to sign my hat.
So, I ended up just standing there, feeling a bit embarrassed. Some of the other fans started laughing, and one of them explained the whole Mavericks-Celtics rivalry thing to me. I guess it makes sense now, but it was still a bit of a letdown.
Some Tips I Got From The Crowd
After that, I stuck around and learned a few things from the other fans. Here’s what I gathered:
- Handicaps: Apparently, professional golfers on the PGA Tour don’t use handicaps. That’s only for amateur golfers. It makes sense, I guess, since these guys are the best of the best.
- Top Golfers: I heard some names like Jeev Milkha Singh and Raminder Sidhu. They said Singh has won titles on multiple tours and even reached the 28th rank in the world. That’s pretty impressive, right?
Anyway, that was my day. I didn’t get my hat signed, but I did learn a bit about golf and got a funny story out of it. Maybe I’ll give golf another shot, but next time I’ll probably just wear a plain hat, just in case.
