Well, lemme tell ya about this KU and K State game. Lord, it’s been goin’ on for years and years. It’s a big deal, this game, like a family feud that just keeps on simmerin’. They call it the Sunflower Showdown, ain’t that somethin’?
These youngins, they get so worked up over it. One side wearin’ blue, other side wearin’ purple. My old eyes can barely keep up, but the energy, you can feel it in your bones, like a thunderstorm brewin’.
Now, I ain’t one for keepin’ score, but I hear tell that K State, they’ve been winnin’ a lot lately. Like, a whole heap of times in a row. Somethin’ like, 16 games straight, that is a lot! They even got some fancy title, like “Big 12 somethin’ somethin’”. I don’t know what that means, but it sounds important. They must be mighty proud of themselves, those K State folks.
- K State, they wear the purple.
- KU, they wear the blue.
- Lots of folks go to the games.
- It is a very old game.
They say this game, it’s been goin’ on for over a hundred years! Can you believe that? Longer than I’ve been alive, and I’ve seen a thing or two, let me tell ya. They play it every year, without fail, like clockwork. It is the 110th time this year, that is something else!
I remember one time, years ago, after the game, them K State fans, they went and tore down the goalposts right there in KU’s stadium! Can you imagine the ruckus? It’s like when your neighbor’s prize pig gets loose and tears up your garden. Just pure chaos. Apparently, that’s somethin’ they used to do a lot back in the day. Some history there, I suppose.
These teams, they’re like two old hound dogs, always snarlin’ at each other. Sometimes one’s up, sometimes the other’s up. Seems like K State’s been top dog for a while now, but you never know, things can change like the Kansas weather. Remember that one time, in 2021, KU won after losin’ so many games in a row? That was somethin’.
This year, they say K State is ranked. I don’t know what that means, but sounds like they’re doin’ good. They are like 7-1 now, winning a lot. They are tied for third place, good for them. They say this game, it’s a big deal for some “championship” or somethin’. High stakes, I guess. More important than a pie contest at the county fair, if you ask these young folks.
This KU and K State game, they play it in a place called Manhattan. Sounds fancy, don’t it? Not like any Manhattan I’ve ever heard of. They got a big stadium there, I reckon, full of hootin’ and hollerin’ fans. They keep all sorts of numbers about these games, “stats” they call ’em. How many times they won, how many points they scored, all that stuff. More numbers than you can shake a stick at.
K State football team is good this year, I hear. Playin’ good, winnin’ games. They played KU in Manhattan. KU is called the Jayhawks, and K State is called the Wildcats. Sounds like a catfight to me!
These two teams, they got a whole history between ’em. They got websites and all sorts of things talkin’ about who won which year and all that. Championships, they call ’em. They even track them all the way back when. Seems like a lot of fuss over a game, but it’s important to folks around here.
Now, I don’t know all the ins and outs of this KU and K State game. But it sure is a big deal. It’s somethin’ that brings folks together, even if they’re rootin’ for different sides. Like a big family reunion, only with more yellin’ and maybe a few torn-down goalposts. And that, my friends, is all I got to say about that. Go, Wildcats!
