Okay, so today I wanted to dig into the Lakers versus Timberwolves game and pull out some player stats. It’s something I’ve been meaning to do, and I finally got around to it. Here’s how it went down:

Finding the Data
First things first, I needed to find the data. I remember these box scores used to be everywhere, Now I just go straight to a sports website.
Getting My Hands Dirty
Once I have the website open, I look for the lakers vs timberwolves match, then the stats are right there on the game summary page.I decided to keep to keep things simple, focus on player names, points, rebounds, and assists.
Wrangling the Numbers
Now came the fun part – actually looking at the * is what i record:
- LeBron James:30 Points,10 Rebounds,15 Assists.
- Anthony Davis:27 Points,25 Rebounds,5 Assists,7 Steals,3 Blocks.
- Austin Reaves:15 Points,1 Rebounds,4 Assists.
- D’Angelo Russell:9 Points,3 Rebounds,6 Assists.
- Rui Hachimura:6 Points,1 Rebounds,0 Assists.
- Anthony Edwards:26 Points,2 Rebounds,8 Assists.
- Karl-Anthony Towns:16 Points,10 Rebounds,3 Assists.
- Rudy Gobert:18 Points,20 Rebounds,3 Assists.
- Mike Conley:13 Points,4 Rebounds,4 Assists.
- Nickeil Alexander-Walker:11 Points,3 Rebounds,5 Assists.
I copied these into a simple text file, one line per player. Nothing fancy, I have it, so maybe later I’ll make a proper spreadsheet or * now i just make it simple and crude.
Reflections
It was actually pretty cool to see the data laid out like *’s so easy to get caught up in the game itself and not appreciate the individual performances.I’m glad I took the time to do this little exercise.I might make this a regular thing, tracking stats for different games and seeing how players progress over the *’s a fun way to stay connected with the sport and maybe learn a thing or two along the way.
