Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this whole Nyck Harbor 40-yard dash thing. You know, Nyck Harbor, that five-star recruit from the 2023 class? Yeah, that guy. Super hyped up, everyone’s talking about his speed. I saw some stuff online about him also doing track meets and something about a 4x100m relay race, so I got curious and decided to see what I could dig up.
First off, finding an official 40 time for this dude is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Lots of speculation, lots of talk about his “breakaway speed” on the field, and how he’s a “big, physical runner.” I mean, sure, he’s 6’5″, so he probably looks like a beast out there, right? I saw somewhere that he overwhelms his opponents just by his sheer size and that he’s good at blocking. That’s cool, but I wanted the numbers, you know?
So, I started watching some of his high school track videos. I found a few of his 100m and 200m races. Man, this guy can move! It’s crazy to see someone that big running that fast. In one of the videos, he was the anchor in a 4x100m relay, and he was just flying down the track. It wasn’t a 40-yard dash, but it gave me a good idea of his speed. It was some event called “Champions of America” I think.
- I tried to compare his high school track times to some other athletes. It seems like most people use those to estimate a 40 time, anyway. It’s not perfect, but it’s something.
- I spent a good chunk of an afternoon just looking at numbers. My eyes started to glaze over after a while, haha.
- I started to write down his times, other runners’ times, trying to do some rough calculations in my head. It was a mess.
Eventually, I gave up on finding an official time. Honestly, it might not even be out there. But based on what I saw, and what I know about how football players train, I’m pretty sure his 40 time is insane. Like, maybe not the fastest ever, but definitely up there with the best. My conclusion is simple: He is good at track and football, and his size and speed make him a good player.
This whole thing was a fun little rabbit hole to go down. It’s always cool to see how these young athletes are pushing the limits. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Nyck Harbor breaking some records in the future. I just wish I could have found that darn 40 time!
It also made me realize that judging a football player’s performance on the field by just his track and field statistics isn’t really that accurate. I mean, a track meet is nothing like a football game, right? Anyway, that was my deep dive into Nyck Harbor’s speed. What a ride!
