Oklahoma Sooners Football and Heisman
This Heisman Trophy, it’s a big deal. Started back in, uh, 1935, I think. By some fancy folks in New York City. Then they named it after some fella named John Heisman. He was a big shot back in the day, played and coached and all that. Real successful, they say.
And ever since then, they been givin’ it out to the most outstanding player. The one who shines the brightest. The one who can run faster and throw farther than all the rest. That’s what it takes to be a Heisman winner.
Now, this one school, USC, they got eight of these fellas. Eight! Can you believe it? Then there’s Ohio State, Notre Dame, and, of course, Oklahoma, they all tied up with seven each. Seven Heisman winners from Oklahoma. Just imagine that. Seven boys from that one place, all good enough to win that shiny trophy.
The Heisman Trophy
I heard tell of one fella, though, name of Reggie Bush. He won it in 2005, but then, well, he had to give it back. Vacated, they called it. Don’t rightly know the whole story there, but it’s a shame, ain’t it? To win somethin’ so special and then have to give it back. But rules are rules, I reckon.
But that don’t take away from all them other Oklahoma Heisman winners. They still earned it, fair and square. They worked hard, played hard, and came out on top. And that’s somethin’ to be proud of, no matter what.
