Okay, so today I found myself wondering about the Cincinnati Bengals. The question just popped into my head: when was the last time the Bengals actually won a Super Bowl? I felt like I remembered some buzz around them recently, but couldn’t quite place a win.

My Process
First thing I did, naturally, was head over to my computer. Fired it up, opened a browser, and went straight to my favorite search engine. Nothing fancy.
I typed in something simple, like “last time bengals won super bowl”. Pretty straightforward, right?
The results started loading up. Lots of links, articles, headlines. I saw mentions of Super Bowl LVI, Joe Burrow, the Los Angeles Rams. Stuff from that recent Super Bowl they played in.
I started scanning through the snippets and headlines. Reading bits like “Bengals Super Bowl history,” “How many Super Bowls have the Bengals won?”.
And then, it became pretty clear, pretty quickly. As I scrolled and read a bit more, I kept seeing the same information repeated in different ways.
The Discovery
It turns out, the Cincinnati Bengals have never actually won a Super Bowl. Zero. Zilch. Nada.
Well, that answered my initial question definitively! They haven’t ever won one, let alone had a “last time” they won.
That got me a little curious, though. Okay, they haven’t won, but how many times did they get close? How many times did they actually make it to the big game?

So, I did another quick search. This time I typed in “Cincinnati Bengals Super Bowl appearances”.
The information came up easily enough. It looks like they’ve made it to the Super Bowl three times in their history.
- Super Bowl XVI: They played against the San Francisco 49ers and lost.
- Super Bowl XXIII: Played against the 49ers again, and unfortunately for them, lost again.
- Super Bowl LVI: This was the recent one, against the Los Angeles Rams. They lost that one too.
So, there it is. Started with a simple question about when they last won, and ended up confirming they’ve been to the final game three times but haven’t managed to secure the victory yet. Quite a journey for them, and an interesting bit of football history I clarified for myself today.
