Well now, let me tell ya, this here “creator classic leaderboard” thing, sounds fancy, but it’s just a bunch of folks playin’ some game, golf they call it. I seen it on the TV once, they hittin’ little balls with sticks, tryin’ to get ’em in a hole. Don’t seem too hard, but I reckon it is if they’re keepin’ score and all.
So, this leaderboard, it’s like a list, see? Shows ya who’s winnin’ and who’s losin’. Like that time they had the pie eatin’ contest at the county fair. They put the names up on a big ol’ chalkboard. First place got a blue ribbon, second got red, and the rest, well, they just got full bellies.
This golf thing, they use numbers. Little minus signs and plus signs. Don’t ask me what it all means, but the fellers with the most minus signs, they’re doin’ good. Them’s the ones at the top of the board. The plus sign fellers, well, they need some practice, I reckon.
- They got a feller named Wesley Bryan, he’s got a “-2”. Sounds like he’s doin’ alright.
- Then there’s a bunch of ’em with “-1”. Roger Steele, Sean Walsh, and Luke Kwon. Luke feller even won somethin’ called a “playoff”. Guess he’s pretty good too.
- Some others, Brad Dalke and Micah, they got a “E”. Don’t know what that means, maybe they’re just even-steven.
This here “Creator Classic” thing, it happened at a place called East Lake. Sounds pretty, like a place you could go fishin’. But I guess these folks were too busy hittin’ them little balls to do any fishin’. They say it was before some big golf tournament, the “PGA Tour Championship” or somethin’. Fancy names for a game, if you ask me.
Turns out, these players, they ain’t your regular golfers. They’re YouTubers and social media folks. You know, the ones always makin’ videos and postin’ pictures. Guess they got tired of starin’ at screens and decided to whack some balls for a change. They got folks like the Bryan brothers, Paige Spiranac, Peter Finch, and some group called Good Good Golf. Never heard of ’em, but I reckon they’re popular with the young’uns.
Luke Kwon, the feller who won the playoff, he used to play golf in China. Said he birdied the last hole to win. Birdied? I ain’t never seen no birds on a golf course, but then again, I ain’t never been to one. Maybe they got special golfin’ birds over there.
One feller, Horvat, he couldn’t play ’cause his best friend was gettin’ hitched. Said he was busy bein’ the best man. Now, that’s somethin’ I understand. Weddin’s are important. More important than hittin’ little balls, that’s for sure.
So, this leaderboard, it just tells you who’s playin’ good and who ain’t. Just like the pie eatin’ contest. Them numbers, they just show how many hits it takes to get the ball in the hole. Less hits, better you are. Simple as that. I could probably do it, if I had a mind to. But I’d rather be in my garden, tendin’ to my tomatoes. That’s a game I understand.
Anyways, that’s the gist of it. These folks playin’ golf, somebody’s keepin’ score, and they put it all on a list. They call it a leaderboard. Fancy name, but it’s just a list. And that’s all there is to it.
Just like when they had that watermelon seed spittin’ contest, the one who spit the farthest, now he was the winner. We all cheered, clapped and patted him on the back. That’s what it all comes down to in the end, doing your best and getting a little recognition for it. It makes a body feel good, you see? Even if it’s just spittin’ watermelon seeds or hitting a little white ball with a stick.
I remember my grandpappy used to say, “It ain’t about winnin’ or losin’, it’s about how you play the game.” But I reckon winnin’ feels a whole heap better than losin’. But that’s life I guess, you win some, you lose some. Just like when I was making them jams last summer, some turned out just perfect and some were a little too runny. But you just keep on keepin’ on, right?
So, that’s what I know about this here leader board thing. Hope it makes some sense to ya. It’s just a way of keepin’ track of who’s doin’ what, nothin’ more, nothin’ less. And whether it’s golf or pie eatin’, someone’s always gotta be on top and someone’s gotta be on the bottom. That’s the way of the world, plain and simple.
