Well now, lemme tell ya ’bout a young gal named Shelomi Sanders. She’s got a famous dad, that Deion Sanders, but this gal’s makin’ her own name on the basketball court. Ain’t no sittin’ back for her; she’s out there hustlin’ and shootin’ hoops like she’s got somethin’ to prove. Yessiree, Shelomi ain’t just ridin’ on her daddy’s name—she’s carvin’ out her own place in college basketball.
Switchin’ Schools
Now, seems like this gal’s been packin’ her bags a good bit. Shelomi started out playin’ for Jackson State, but she moved over to Colorado, hopin’ maybe a new start would give her a chance to shine. But wouldn’t ya know it, that still weren’t quite right for her. After one season with Colorado, she decided to head down to Alabama A&M. Guess she figured the South felt more like home. Heck, maybe them warmer days help her feel better, ya know?
Focusin’ on Her Game
Now, over at Alabama A&M, Shelomi’s got her head down and her eyes on the prize. There’s video of her practicin’ real hard, showin’ she ain’t shy of puttin’ in them long hours. Coach Ebi Ere, who’s watchin’ over her now, he ain’t shy ’bout singin’ her praises neither. Calls her a “workhorse,” he does. Says she’s the kinda player always lookin’ for that extra bit of practice, goin’ above an’ beyond what’s expected. Can’t get no higher compliment in sports than bein’ called hard-workin’, I reckon.
Personal Struggles but Keepin’ Strong
And get this—Shelomi’s got herself some health challenges too. Poor gal’s dealin’ with type 1 diabetes, but she ain’t lettin’ that slow her down. She’s been right vocal ’bout it, too, sharin’ her story so folks know what she’s up against. Now that takes courage, don’t it? Bein’ open ’bout somethin’ so tough, tryin’ to help other folks who might be goin’ through the same thing.
Why, she’s even worked with Dexcom, one of them companies that make them glucose monitors, tryin’ to spread the word ’bout how she manages her condition while playin’ college ball. Shelomi’s showin’ folks it can be done, diabetes or no diabetes. She’s a tough one, no doubt ’bout that.
A Family Affair
Now, with a dad like Deion Sanders, football runs in the family’s blood, so to speak. Shelomi’s often seen cheerin’ on her old man’s team at University of Colorado Boulder, where her daddy coaches. Even though she’s moved schools a couple times, she’s still got that family spirit, followin’ her dad’s games and bein’ one of his biggest fans. That’s a close-knit family if I ever saw one.
Her Stats on the Court
Shelomi’s still workin’ on buildin’ her numbers, but every player’s got to start somewhere, don’t they? Back at Colorado, she didn’t get much playtime, but she’s got some good stats from high school. She averaged 16 points back then, so she’s got it in her—just a matter of time, reckon, till she brings that same fire to Alabama A&M. Let her settle in, and we’ll be seein’ more action from her, I’ll bet my best rooster on it.
The Future’s Bright for Shelomi
So, what’s ahead for Shelomi Sanders? Well, from the look of things, this young gal’s got her sights set high. With her work ethic, family support, and the strength to tackle her health challenges head-on, I reckon we’ll be hearin’ more ’bout her in the years to come. Don’t matter where she’s playin’—whether it’s Alabama A&M or anywhere else—long as she keeps on keepin’ on, she’ll be just fine.
So here’s to Shelomi, a young gal chasin’ her dreams and showin’ the world she’s got what it takes, Sanders name or not. Sometimes you just gotta step outta the shadow and show folks what you’re made of, and Shelomi, she’s doin’ just that.
