Well, let me tell ya ’bout this fella, Demetress Bell. Folks used to call him Demetrius, but later on he went by Demetress. Born way back in 1984, May 3rd to be exact, down in Summerfield, Louisiana.
Now, this boy, he was a big ‘un, strong as an ox. Played that football game, you know, the one where they all run around and smash into each other? He was what they call an “offensive tackle.” Sounded important, I reckon. Always protectin’ the fella with the ball, makin’ sure nobody hurt him.

- Job: Offensive Tackle in American Football
First off, he played college ball for some school called Northwestern State. Don’t know much about them colleges, but I hear it’s a big deal for these young’uns to go there and play. Anyways, he musta been good, real good, ’cause he got himself drafted into the NFL. That’s the big leagues, ya know? The place where the real tough fellas play.
He got picked by the Buffalo Bills in 2008. Seventh round, they say. Don’t rightly know what that means, but it sounds like he wasn’t the first pick, but he still got in! Played there for a good four years, protectin’ that quarterback like a mama bear protectin’ her cubs. Them Bills fans, they probably loved him. Big fella like that, workin’ hard, keepin’ their boy safe.
After the Bills, he went on to play for the Dallas Cowboys. Them Cowboys, they’re a famous bunch. Always hearin’ about ’em on the TV. Demetress, he kept on doin’ what he did best, blockin’ them fellas tryin’ to get to the quarterback. That’s a tough job, gotta be strong and quick and smart all at the same time.
Now, I don’t follow this football too close, ya know? Too much runnin’ and yellin’ for my taste. But I heard tell that Demetress, he was a good player. A hard worker. And that’s somethin’ to be proud of, no matter what you do in life. Whether you’re farmin’ fields or playin’ football, you gotta put in the effort, gotta give it your all.
ESPN, that’s the channel on the TV where they talk about all this sports stuff, they got a whole page about him. Says he played all kinds of positions, did all kinds of things on that field. Even got stats and numbers and all that fancy stuff. Me, I can’t make heads or tails of it, but it sounds like he was a real contributor to the team.
They even said somethin’ ’bout him goin’ from basketball to football. Imagine that! One day you’re throwin’ a ball through a hoop, and the next you’re smashin’ into other fellas on the field. That takes guts, I tell ya. Shows he was a determined fella, willing to try new things, work hard to be the best he could be.
Demetress Bell, that’s a name worth rememberin’. A fella who worked hard, played hard, and made a name for himself in that tough world of football. And from what I gather, he did it with grit and determination, the kind you need to make it in anythin’ in this life. He ain’t playin’ no more, seems he’s retired now. But he left his mark, that’s for sure.
Folks say he was a real talent, dedicated and all that. And I believe ‘em. Takes a lot to make it to the top, especially in somethin’ like football, where everybody’s bigger and faster than you are. He must have been tough as nails.
So that’s the story of Demetress Bell, as best as I can tell it. A Louisiana boy who made good, played hard, and earned his place in the NFL. A good story, I think, about hard work and determination. The kind of story that warms an old woman’s heart. And that’s that.
