Okay, so the other day I was messing around in the garage, trying to fix up this old wooden chair. I had the tools out, sawdust was flying everywhere, and I thought I was being all careful and stuff.
Spoiler alert: I wasn’t.
I was using this power sander, you know, the kind that vibrates like crazy? I leaned in close to get a good look at a stubborn rough patch, and BAM! Something flew up and smacked me right in the eye.
It felt like a tiny explosion in my eyeball. Seriously, I saw stars. I dropped the sander (thankfully it didn’t land on my foot), and grabbed my eye, yelling some pretty colorful words.
My first thought, after “Ow, ow, OW,” was, “Did I just blind myself?” I stumbled over to the sink and started rinsing my eye with water. It stung like heck, but I kept going, hoping to flush out whatever had hit me.
After what felt like an eternity, the burning started to calm down a little. I carefully pried my eye open. Things were blurry, and there was this annoying red spot floating around, but I could see! Relief washed over me, though it was quickly followed by a throbbing headache.
The Aftermath
- My eye was super bloodshot.
- It felt scratchy and irritated.
- Everything was a bit blurry.
- It was teary.
I decided it was best to seek some help.
They checked everything out, and thankfully, it was just a corneal abrasion – basically a scratch on the surface of my eye. They gave me some antibiotic drops and told me to take it easy for a few days.
The moral of the story? Always, always, ALWAYS wear safety glasses when you’re doing any kind of DIY project. No matter how small or simple it seems. My eye is slowly getting back to normal, but it was a scary reminder that accidents can happen in a split second. Learn from my stupidity, folks!
