Trying Out That Look
So, the other day I was just scrolling, you know how it is, maybe watching some old clips online. And I saw Laura Govan, I think it was from one of those reunion shows or something. She had this outfit on, looked real sharp. Clean lines, kinda powerful but still feminine. And I thought to myself, “Huh, I wonder if I could pull something like that off.” Not exactly the same thing, obviously, but just that kinda vibe.
My wardrobe’s been feeling a bit… well, boring lately. Same old stuff. So, I figured, why not? Let’s try and capture that look. Seemed like a practical enough challenge. It wasn’t like some crazy runway thing, looked like real clothes people could wear.
Getting Started
First thing I did was try to find better pictures of that specific outfit, or at least similar styles she wears. Spent a good hour just searching online. Found a few angles. Looked like a well-fitted blazer, some smart trousers, maybe heels. The key seemed to be the tailoring, everything looked like it fit perfectly.
Okay, plan formed: find a sharp blazer and some decent pants. Sounds simple, right? Ha.
The Hunt
I started looking online first. You see blazers everywhere, but getting that specific cut and fit just from pictures? Tough. Everything either looked too boxy, too long, or the material seemed cheap. Remember, I wanted that sharp look.
- Checked my usual online stores. Found some candidates, but wasn’t sure.
- Decided I needed to actually try things on. Headed to the mall next weekend.
- Went into a few department stores. Man, blazers can cost a pretty penny. Found one that was close in style, but the fit was off. Too tight in the shoulders, weirdly loose around the waist.
- Looked at trousers next. Again, finding that perfect fit and drape is harder than it looks. Some were too long, some too short, some just didn’t hang right.
It was getting kinda frustrating. You see these people on TV looking effortlessly chic, but replicating it takes serious effort. And probably a good tailor on speed dial.
The Outcome (Sort Of)
After a couple of shopping trips, both online and offline, here’s what I ended up with:
I found a blazer, not exactly the same, but it had a nice cut. It was on sale, which was a bonus. Still needed a little tweak, maybe get the sleeves taken up an inch. I also found some decent black trousers that fit pretty well off the rack, surprisingly. Had to compromise on the exact style I first saw, but they looked smart enough.

Put it all together with a simple top underneath and some heels I already owned. Looked in the mirror. Was it exactly the Laura Govan look I saw? Nah, not really. But was it sharper than my usual? Yeah, definitely. Felt pretty good, actually.
It was a process, for sure. Made me realize how much goes into those celebrity looks – the right pieces, perfect tailoring, probably stuff we don’t even think about. It’s not just grabbing things off a rack. It was a good reminder that trying something new with your style takes work, and sometimes you gotta adapt the inspiration to fit your actual life and budget. Still, glad I gave it a shot. Shook things up a bit.
