Okay, so I spent some time looking into Hailey Rae Ostrom recently. Not in a weird way, you know, but more about her golf game. I saw some clips online, maybe on Instagram or somewhere, and her swing just looked… well, kinda effortless but still powerful. Got me thinking.

Trying to Figure It Out
So, what I did was basically pull up a bunch of her videos. Swing videos, practice drills, that sort of thing. I wasn’t trying to become a pro overnight or copy her exactly, that’s just silly. But I wanted to see if there was something simple I could maybe pick up, something to try out myself at the range.
I focused mostly on a couple of things:
- Her setup: How she stands, her posture. Looked pretty athletic.
- Her takeaway and backswing: Seemed really smooth, no jerky movements.
- Her tempo: That was the big one for me. It just looked rhythmic.
Hitting the Range
Armed with these vague ideas, I went to the driving range. First few balls, I just hit like normal. Then, I started consciously thinking about the setup. Tried to feel a bit more balanced, maybe a little more engaged in the legs like she seemed to be. Felt kinda stiff at first, not gonna lie. Old habits die hard.
Then I worked on the takeaway. Just trying to make it smoother, one piece. Watched her tempo in my head. Slow back, then let it go. Easier said than done, obviously. Hit some good ones, hit some terrible ones. That’s golf, right?
I even tried taking a few slow-motion videos of myself with my phone, propped up on my bag. Watched them back right there. Yeah, didn’t look like Hailey Rae Ostrom, surprise surprise. But it did make me notice how rushed my own tempo can get, especially compared to the smooth rhythm I saw in her swing.
What I Got From It
So, after a couple of sessions just messing around with this, what happened? Did I suddenly gain 20 yards and start hitting fairways like a machine? Nope. Definitely not.
But it wasn’t a waste of time. It made me more aware of my own tempo, which is something I know I need to work on. Trying to mimic that smooth backswing, even if I failed, kind of forced me to slow down a little. And focusing on setup is always good reminder.
So yeah, that was my little experiment inspired by watching Hailey Rae Ostrom play. Just another day trying to figure out this crazy game. It’s always interesting to see what you can learn just by watching someone else, even if you can’t replicate it perfectly. Made practice a bit different for a day or two.
