Alright, so listen up, y’all. We gonna talk about this fella, Blake Proehl. Don’t know him? Well, lemme tell ya, he’s been around, doin’ all sorts of things.
First off, this boy, he tried his hand at that football stuff. You know, the one where they run around and smack each other? Yeah, that one. He was with them Vikings, the ones with the horns on their helmets. Signed up with ’em back in 2021 as a free agent, which means they didn’t draft him, he just showed up and they liked what they saw. Got himself a nice chunk of change, too. Heard tell it was somethin’ like $867,000, plus some extra for good measure. Not too shabby, huh?
He was a wide receiver, meaning he was supposed to catch the ball. But seems like things didn’t quite work out the way he planned. He spent a couple years on the practice squad, which is like the benchwarmers in baseball, but for football. He got hurt a bit, too. They waived him, then signed him back, then put him on some list or somethin’. All that fancy talk, I can’t keep up. But the long and short of it is, he didn’t play much in the real games, the ones that matter.
- Signed with the Vikings in 2021
- Was a wide receiver
- Spent time on the practice squad
- Got injured
Now, you’d think that’d be the end of the story, right? Kid tries football, it don’t work out, he goes home and gets a regular job. But no sir, this Blake, he’s got other plans. Turns out, the boy can sing! Like, really sing. And not just in the shower, neither. He went and got himself on that TV show, “American Idol”. You know the one, where folks stand up and sing their hearts out for a bunch of judges? Yeah, that’s the one.
And wouldn’t you know it, he’s doin’ pretty good! Folks seem to like him. Heard his grandma was a big help, pushin’ him to chase his dreams. That’s how it should be, family supportin’ family. So now he’s singin’ country songs, by some fella named Russell somethin’ or other. I ain’t much for that newfangled music, but if it makes the boy happy, then good for him.
It’s kinda like a second chance, you know? Football didn’t pan out, so he found somethin’ else he’s good at. And that’s important. Life throws you curveballs, you gotta learn to hit ’em, or at least duck and try somethin’ new. This Blake fella, he seems to have figured that out.
He’s only 25 years old, still a young’un in my book. Got his whole life ahead of him. Whether he makes it big in the singin’ world or not, that ain’t the point. The point is, he’s tryin’. He’s puttin’ himself out there, takin’ a risk. And that’s somethin’ to be admired.
He’s been gettin’ some attention, too. Folks are writin’ about him, talkin’ about him. That “American Idol” show, it’s a big deal. And even them football folks, they still remember him. He was a good teammate, they say. Professional, even though he was just a rookie. That says a lot about a person.
So, there ya have it. The story of Blake Proehl. From football fields to singin’ stages. Who knows what he’ll do next? Maybe he’ll become a movie star, or a politician, or maybe he’ll just go back to regular life. Whatever he does, I wish him the best. He seems like a good kid, workin’ hard and chasin’ his dreams. And that’s all anyone can ask for, right?
This new season of “American Idol” just started up in February, so we’ll see how far he goes. One of them judges, Katy Perry, she’s even leavin’ the show after this season. Times are a-changin’, that’s for sure.
But one thing stays the same: you gotta keep on tryin’, keep on pushin’, keep on believin’ in yourself. And that’s what Blake Proehl seems to be doin’. Good for him, I say. Good for him.
