Alright, so I wanted to really dig into the 76ers vs Clippers game the other day, specifically looking at the player stats. I wasn’t doing anything super technical, just wanted to track things myself as the game unfolded.

First things first, I got myself set up before tip-off. Didn’t want to scramble once the action started. I just grabbed my notebook and a pen – keeping it old school, you know? Decided I’d mainly focus on the big ones: points, rebounds, assists. Maybe steals and blocks if I could catch them easily.
Getting Started
So, the game started. I had it on the TV, volume up. I tried to jot down baskets as they happened. Player name, then add 2 or 3 points next to their name. Same for rebounds – watching who grabbed the board off a miss. Assists were a bit trickier, had to quickly see who passed it for the score. It gets kinda fast, you know?
Keeping Track
- Points: Just tallying up scores for each key player.
- Rebounds: Watching the misses, seeing who secured the ball.
- Assists: Trying to catch the pass right before the score.
Honestly, keeping up live was tougher than I thought. Especially during quick transition plays or when there were lots of subs. Sometimes I’d miss who got the rebound or the assist. I found myself relying on the on-screen graphics the broadcast showed occasionally, just to double-check or catch up if I missed something.
Half-Time Check-In
At halftime, I took a breather and looked over my messy notes. Tried to make sense of the tallies. Added things up roughly. It gave me a decent picture of who was having a strong first half. Like, you could clearly see if one guy was carrying the scoring load or if someone was crashing the boards hard.
Second Half and Wrapping Up
The second half was pretty much the same process. Watch, jot down, try not to fall too far behind. If I got lost, I made a mental note to check the official box score later for the bits I missed. You can’t catch everything perfectly just watching and scribbling, especially steals and blocks – those happen fast.
After the final buzzer, I spent a few minutes cleaning up my notes. Added up the final tallies for the main guys I was tracking. It wasn’t perfectly accurate down to the last number compared to the official stats you see online later, but it was pretty close! It definitely gave me a good feel for individual performances beyond just the eye test.
Final Thoughts

It was an interesting little exercise. Made me pay closer attention to the details of the game, beyond just who won or lost. Seeing the numbers accumulate live gives you a different perspective. It wasn’t super scientific, just my own little project while watching the game. Kinda fun, might do it again sometime.
