Alright, so I got curious the other day. You hear names bounced around in the tennis world, especially coaches, and suddenly you realize you haven’t heard about someone in a bit. This time it was David Witt.

My first thought went straight to Jessica Pegula, obviously. They had that long run together, really solid stuff. But then I remembered, yeah, they split up earlier this year, right after the Australian Open, I think. That news made a splash.
So, the question popped into my head: who’s he working with now? You know how it is, coaches like him, with that kind of experience, they don’t usually sit around twiddling their thumbs for too long.
I started digging around online. Just opened up my browser and started typing things like “David Witt current coaching job” or “who is David Witt coaching 2024”. You get a lot of old news first, mostly stuff about Pegula, or even way back to his time with Venus Williams.
Sorting Through the Noise
I had to sift through quite a bit. Lots of articles rehashing the Pegula split. Some speculation pieces here and there on forums, people guessing where he might land. You know how fans love to play armchair agent.
- Checked some major sports news sites.
- Looked at tennis-specific blogs and news feeds.
- Tried to see if anything popped up on social media chatter, but carefully, avoiding the fake stuff.
It took a little bit, wasn’t instant. For a while, it seemed like maybe he was taking a break, or perhaps working behind the scenes without a big announcement.
The Answer Popped Up
Then, bingo. Started seeing more concrete reports, not just guesses. Multiple sources, seemed reliable. They all pointed to the same player.
Turns out, David Witt didn’t stay off the tour for long at all. He jumped right back in, and he’s now coaching Maria Sakkari. Yeah, the Greek player. They apparently linked up pretty quickly after his split with Pegula, starting around the time of Indian Wells this year.
So, there it is. From Pegula to Sakkari. Quite a quick turnaround. It’ll be interesting to see how that partnership develops. He did great work with Pegula’s consistency, maybe he can bring some of that magic to Sakkari’s game. Always fascinating to watch these coaching changes play out on the court.
