Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into this “Zach Wilson college” thing, and man, it’s been a journey. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about with this guy, especially before he hit the NFL.

The BYU Deep Dive
First thing I did? I started digging into his games at BYU. Not just the highlights, everyone watches those. I wanted the full games, the nitty-gritty stuff.
- Watched a bunch of games from his 2020 season. That’s the year everyone talks about, right?
- Took notes like crazy. Seriously, pages of scribbles about his footwork, his reads, everything.
- Focused on how he handled pressure. Did he crumble? Did he make magic happen?
Breaking Down the Film
It took me a while because the film study took time. I am not gonna lie. After collecting everything, it was not easy to start.
After reviewing the film a couple of times, I noticed a few things.
He had some inconsistency in the film, but the 2020 season stood out.
-
I started to think he is the real deal.
-
I paused and replayed a lot.
-
I even tried to draw some plays. Don’t laugh, my drawings are awful.
Then I compared his college performance to some of his early NFL stuff. It’s a whole different ballgame, of course, but you can still see some of those college habits, both good and bad.
The Verdict (For Now)
I finished up my little project feeling like I had a much better handle on Zach Wilson, the college player. It’s not the whole picture, obviously, but it’s a start. I’m going to keep digging, keep learning, and keep sharing what I find. Maybe next I will try to find and watch the game film and do this again!
